Ensemble
Under the direction of creative arts therapist & professional performer, Kim Kohler Hort, REALITY's teen ensemble are youth leaders and performers. The ensemble represents a range of high schools in Chicago's northwest suburban region. Each spring, teens are selected through an audition and interview process. As REALITY members, students volunteer their time by promoting positive choices and healthy decision-making via the medium of theatre. Each member must also pledge to be completely drug/alcohol-free.
Director
Kim Kohler, M.A., DTR, is a registered Dance/Movement Psychotherapist, Drama Specialist Prevention Specialist and director of REALITY Theatre with OMNI Youth Services in Buffalo Grove, IL. In addition, Kim is a teacher/trainer with The Chicago Comedy Company, Comedy With A Cause/Join Forces, Adler Danztheatre Kids Project and Just Say It!
Since 1994, Kim has been facilitating workshops nationally and internationally on exploring methods of improvisation, dance, drama, storytelling and creative writing for education, creative empowerment, leadership development and therapeutic purposes. Focus on using the creative arts in education, programming and in treatment for youth, special populations, colleges, conferences and corporations.
Assistant Director
Emily Labbe is a third year Early Childhood Education major at Roosevelt University. Emily has been a part of REALITY Theatre since 2001. She started as an ensemble member, became a directing intern upon graduating high school, and is now in her second season of Assistant Directing. Emily has presented at the Associations for Experiential Education (AEE) conference, and co-facilitated workshops at the AEE conference and the American Alliance for Theatre and Education conference.
