A Game & Sticks and Stones
Two one-act plays for grades 5-8 (or ages 10-14)
A Game:
Beth watches as her friends' cigarette smoking turns into marijuana use and Claire pleads with her father to quit smoking. We realize smoking is a game better left unplayed.
Sticks & Stones:
Boys bully. Girls bully. But very, very differently.
Ryan becomes Jeff's target, his physical punching bag. Everyone in Ryan's class is afraid to stand up to the popular 8th grader until Maria takes a chance to do the right thing and find a friend.
And
Best friends are supposed to be those with whom you are comfortable and your true self, not the ones you need to keep everything locked away for fear that your secrets will get out. But Emma and Kayla experience the joys, pain and deceit of being in AND out of the girls group.
What does it take to stand up and speak out?
Sticks & Stones can break your bones, but their words will last forever.
Hold On
For grades 9-12 (or ages 15-18)
This play explores the issue of SAFETY -- to our self and in our relationships. Two girls begin by turning their pain inward, using self-injury and starvation as their ways to feel & get attention. A young boy deals with the physical outbursts of his mother and the fear of home. And a teenage girl finds light in the darkness of a heart that was blackened by a boyfriend consumed by alcohol and control. Watch as our characters are trying to stand up, trying to speak out and learning not to be afraid.
